Here is what I did to our bedside tables. We purchased these when we first got married 10 years ago (Man that makes me feel old...) at Walmart, cause we were broke. They are ugly and cheap. And don't fit my bedroom decor. My husband says it looks like I bedazzled them. No, not the case. They look like the beach. And I love them.
So take your table.
And using epoxy glue, I used qwik set. I am way to impatient to let it dry for 48 hours. Glue on glass rocks all over the top. Make sure you get enough bags in the first place, I ended up running to three different Wal-marts, mid-project, to get enough. So irritating. Let dry.
The rocks will give it an uneven feel, but it will be even at the top and can hold a glass, your lamp, your books, etc.
Let dry completely. This will allow the sand to have a sand texture but it won't come loose. It will be stuck down to the table.
Then take off white paint and brush on the table. You want to be able to see the table through the paint, hence the beach look. So it does not need to be perfect. I use a little paint on a dry brush to do this. Get a smaller brush and paint the outer edge of the table by the rocks. It's okay if you get a little on the rocks during this step. Once it is dry take your fingernail and the paint just scrapes off the rocks.
