I had already completed the shirt so I took it apart to this point, which is the step further than the one you stopped at. You do not want to cross these straps like this.
Instead pin on the straps and more straps on to the outer edges of the shirts. Make sure to add pleats into them. Just randomly put them on, I also put some clear up by the shoulders. Only pin the outer edge of the straps. Then sew them on. Only on the outer edge of the shirt. Leave the other edge of the strap bunched in the inside of the shirt.
Sew on the sleeves and then sew down the sides of the shirt. (You can see how to do this on that disaster tutorial here) Turn this right sides out.
Put the shirt on, so you can get the placement just right. (I'm finishing my dress form this weekend. HURRAY, detailed tutorial to come for that) Pin on the other ends. Just fold the straps around and lay them flat against you wherever they look good. Cross them and weave them in and out of each other.
Much better. I LOVE the textured look. That is what I was trying to go for the first time. But failed.
